Monitoring in the Middle Deschutes River
The Middle Deschutes River between the City of Bend and Lake Billy Chinook and Tumalo Creek have been the focus of intensive streamflow restoration efforts over the past 20 years. Alongside streamflow restoration efforts, UDWC and partners have monitored temperature in the Middle Deschutes since 2001 to evaluate status and trends and how stream temperature changes with increases in flow. Temperature and other water quality data are available
here.
In early 2012, we launched a partnership with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) to evaluate the status of fish populations in the Middle Deschutes River. Fisheries monitoring was designed to develop baseline information on native redband and introduced brown trout and their use of habitat in relation to stream temperature.
